Day 5

We went into the town of Praia da Vitoria in the Azores late yesterday afternoon. Not really a lot to see but good to be off the ship for a while! it was mainly to have a respite from the elements before continuing to Fort Lauderdale having had to divert from our course to Bermuda.

Last night we met up for drinks with Barbara and Alan who we became friends with last year. Went to the theatre in the evening to watch the Cunard singers and dancers.

We should have left Praia da Vitoria early this morning but couldn’t move the ship out due to the high winds. All down to physics apparently! Eventually left just just after 2pm and now back to our lovely rocky ship. The wind speed has decreased slightly and currently between 30 and 40 knots and travelling at 19.4 knots. The main cause of the discomfort is down to storms outside the area that have caused huge swells in the sea.

Day 3

Definitely the worst Atlantic crossing we have experienced. The rooms at the back of the ship are great but not when the sea is so rough. At our cocktail party last night the Commodore was saying what a magnificent and unpredictable Ocean the Atlantic is! Mmmm…..

David Gower gave an interesting and amusing talk on the Ashes this morning- despite rolling around a bit!

After dinner we had a drink in the lounge with Diana & Terry who we met in 2015. We did know that they would be onboard but it’s surprising the number of other guests who remember us from previous cruises too.
